Let's look at every instance of that word so that we can see how RAV SHAUL uses the word and all the various contextual shadings he gives it. Ro 1:3 [here sarx has no technical term reference to the fallen condition of the old humanity in Adam, but like Ro 4:1 and 9:3 and 9:5 and 11:14 merely refers to humanity in the generic sense or in the case of Moshiach and the Jewish people in the sense of kinsfolk, as when we refer to our parents or our children as "my flesh"] and Ro 2:28 [here, as in Ro 3:20, sarx has a technical term reference to the fallen nature as well as a play-on-words reference to the physical body or the skin, since a mere mohel's knife cut does not make a true Jew, for if that were the case a mass murderer like Leon Trotsky whose mother was Jewish could be made sufficiently Jewish by a mohel's knife; no, the invisible mohel's knife of the Ruach Hakodesh makes a true Jew by taking a Jewish person's heart and cutting away the uncircumcised deafness and blindness of the unregenerate nature, for the fact is that this unregenerate sin-prone fallen "flesh" cannot even be touched, much less cut, by a mohel's knife] and Ro 6:19 [this is a technical term usage of sarx as the carnal nature in Adam that every believer as a sinner saved by grace has this side of glorification, excluding the new Adam, Moshiach the Ben HaAlmah Ben Elokim who has no sin nature and never sinned and has no need of a new birth or of a Savior/Redeemer] and Ro 7:5 [here Rav Shaul uses "in the flesh" as a technical way to refer to being unsaved, so when he says, "when we were in the flesh," he means, "when we were unsaved"] and Ro 7:18 [here Rav Shaul is confessing that he himself has a "dark side" he must keep in check (see Ro 13:14 and compare 1C 9:27) for, as we will see, since glorification has not happened yet for the regenerated believer in the olam hazeh, it is necessary to keep one's flesh or dark side in check, since remnants of "fallen Adam in me" still reside in the regenerated believer, so here the term sarx is used as a technical term] and Ro 7:25 [the reason no 13:14 "provision" can be made for the regenerated believer's dark side is because, left unchecked, it always serves Slave Master Original Sin, because that's what the dark side is, "Original Sin in me" or "Sin-prone fallen Adam in me" and to protect his technical term special useage of "sarx" in various places in Romans, Rav Shaul refers to the Moshiach as one "in the LIKENESS of sinful flesh" in Ro 8:3, meaning Moshiach did not have fallen Adam's dark side because the Bar Enosh Moshiach's Father is the Atik Yomin Daniel 7:13-14 G-d and Moshiach though fully human through his Mother is not a fallen son of Adam] and Ro 8:3 [here we see that the wiley and unregenerated and fallen sarx, again used as a technical term, and the Holy Spiritual Torah don't work together with a saving effect because only Moshiach with the kaporah and the Ruach Hakodesh of regeneration that he provides is the Savior] and Ro 8:5 [here Rav Shaul shows that the unregenerate hang together with the mindset of the unregenerate, lacking the mind of Moshiach in their unsaved fallen condition] and Ro 8:12 [here Rav Shaul alludes to the monstrous dark side within the regenerated believer with an ironic understatement] and Ro 9:8 [here he is using the term "children of the promise" as a kind of technical term for regenerated Messianic Jews and children of the flesh or sarx as unregenerated Jews who are lost and fallen in Adam and blind and deaf in the sinful condition of all unsaved humanity, just as he himself was until his Damascus Road encounter with the living Moshiach] and Ro 13:14 [Rav Shaul says that if you try to keep your dark side and if you use foresight and make provision to keep it, rather than receive the new birth and mortify it daily, then you will die--see Ro 8:13]. When Rav Shaul says that both Jews and non-Jews are under the power of sin (Ro 3:9), is this what he means? In other words, is he saying that we are not just sinners in what we do but in what we are? Here's a simile for you to contemplate. Like a defective gene passed downward through the generations, sin in the first human being (Adam) infected kol HaAdam (all humanity). There was a first transgressor. Yet all his sons are also transgressors, even though transgression is not forced upon the Bnei Adam as in the analogy of a genetic disease. We are using a simile, a figure of speech. We are not saying that sin is literally passed along through the genes. The analogy breaks down at that point because people are not forced to sin in the same way that a person is forced to be sick because they have a genetically transmitted disease from their father. I cannot exonerate myself in that way. Adam did not make me do it. But because I am a fallen son of Adam I do need to be born again and I do need Elokim to adopt me as a son so that I do not go the way of my old father Adam. So as human beings we cannot exonerate ourselves: Jer 17:9 tells us that we have a deceitful heart. See also Ps 51. Consequently from adamah (dirt) we come and to adamah (dirt) we return. And there is a Biblical explanation offered to account for the sinful propensity shared by all people from the beginning. It is called original sin. But just as one man infected the whole race by his unrighteous act, so another man, Moshiach, introduced chayei olam into humanity's children by his gracious [Isaiah 53:11] mitzvah ("worthy or righteous deed"). See Isaiah 53:11. You say, how do you get all that from Isaiah chapter 53? Look at Isaiah 53:10 again. Here it speaks of his days being prolonged when the previous verses have clearly spoken of his death. When we read Isaiah chapter 53 closely we find out that the kever (tomb) of the Moshiach (Messiah) is mentioned, but it’s there only because our redemption requires it, and after he (Moshiach) makes the atonement with his asham sacrifice, his offering, of his nefesh, it says Hashem is satisfied and then after that he’s NO LONGER in his tomb because the Moshiach has his days PROLONGED and THAT requires an empty tomb. Then in Isaiah 53:10 it speaks of Moshiach seeing his "seed," that is, those born of G-d through faith in him. This is why you MUST be born again. You must be born from one race of human beings to another race, from Adam's race to Moshiach's race, Moshiach's seed. So we thank G-d that in the Age of Moshiach, chayei olam comes to us even now, even in this time of Grace. Let's stop here and test your Moshiach literacy. This is why we come to Moshiach's Shul
and the bria
chadasha. He has the
words of chayei olam. We
enter to worship and praise and
pray and be taught to inquire
